ICSE Practical Biology - X

It is a great pleasure to present the Practical Biology to the students of ICSE Class X and the teachers of Biology. The favourable response to the earlier editions has encouraged me to thoroughly revise and improve this book as per the latest ICSE Syllabus.
Practical Biology has been written keeping in mind the specific needs of the
students and the teachers. The simple language and the style of presentation will suit their requirements. It will help the students to know the content and the depth of all that they are expected to prepare for their practicals. The introductory part of each chapter includes a discussion on the theoretical knowledge, which forms the basis of each experiment the students will be performing in their practical class. All instructions have been clearly
given regarding the experiments and dissections. The students are advised to follow them strictly for a systematic and scientific approach and maximum efficiency in their practicals. Each chapter has profusely illustrated text. The illustrations are simple, eye-catching and well-labelled. They have been planned for a clear understanding of the text.
A special feature of this manual is a section on Viva Voce/Exercise towards the end of each chapter. The questions have been given on the pattern of the ICSE practical examinations. The students will find them extremely useful before appearing for their annual Practical Biology examination.
The teachers will find this manual extremely useful in planning and conducting this course for their ICSE students. This manual should be a guide to the students before, during and after their practical classes. It will form an integral part of their biology practicals.
The first two chapters are introductory in nature and the students must study them before starting their biology experiments in regular classes. Towards the end of the book, six appendices have been given to assist the students and teachers in (i) preparing various reagents, fixatives and stains, (ii) collection of plants and animals, (iii) compiling materials for a first aid box and (iv) learning the names of some common animals and plants.
