Symphony English Literature Reader - 4

Symphony is a series of English course books comprising twenty-four books designed to meet the requirements of children at the primary and middle level. It has eight Readers, eight Activity Books and eight Literature Readers (Classes I to VIII).
Literature Readers are collections of short stories, poems and plays, primarily meant for enjoyment and to promote fluent reading. They have the following special features.
* The pieces are short and simple so that the children are able to read and enjoy them without the teacher’s help.
* The pieces are age-appropriate.
* They concretise the children’s imagination, give it shape and colour, and also invigorate it and lead it to new, uncharted territories.
* These pieces, very subtly, expose the children to universally acclaimed human values. They make the children think, analyse and arrive at the right decisions on their own. In this way, the children imbibe noble values without being conscious of the process.
* The selected pieces are examples of what may be termed as ‘good literature’. They are meant to sharpen the children’s aesthetic sensibility and to enable them to appreciate literature.
* Post-reading tasks are also short and simple—designed to reinforce the central theme of the story/poem/play and to reveal its innate beauty.
